Back-to-School

Dollar Journal
Back to School is a JustRite 031 challenge.  This week's challenge, sponsored by Spellbinders, is to create something back-to-school related.  Being a teacher myself and my children are adults I created a little something that can be given to a fellow teacher to journal the new school year.  I began by buying a dollar journal at a major retail store.  I decided to cover it with My Mind's Eye "quite contray-be happy" paper.  The paper is two sided so I used the print on the outside and the red stripe on the inside. (pictured at the bottom)   I used Ranger "Tea dye" distress on the paper to take some of the new look away.  In order to get a good fold I used the Scor-pal.  The image was stamped with the apple basket from the JustRite set "Autumn Blessings" and the verse from the JustRite "Cherish the Memories" set.  I put both on the large clear rectangle block to stamp together.  That worked perfect.  The coloring was done with Copic Markers of course. I then cut it with a Spellbinder oval and mounted it on red.  The accessories used are from We R Memory Keepers.  A red tie is used to keep it closed.  I decided I just could not stop there so I made a bookmark using the same basket stamp and a purchased tag that I covered.  This time I cut it with the Spellbinder circle and mounted it on the scallop.  A red ribbon is sandwiched as I cut the print to make a finished back to the circle.  The backside of the bookmark is red.  To finish off this project I needed a large envelope that the book would fit into for storage.  I again used the Scor-Pal to make the envelope storage.  I allowed the spine width of the book for the depth of the envelope and added about 1/2 to the width and length.  Oh I forgot I put a little glossy accents on the basket. This was fun to create and I hope you enjoy.
